Yodel’s Fleet & Transport investments reduce carbon emissions

Yodels Fleet & Transport investments into their Fleet & Transport have created significant improvements in performance and a reduction in carbon emissions. The logistics company have implemented technology that allows them to closely track and analyze delivery status and vehicle operation to ensure driver safety and fuel efficiency.

According to Yodel the new tech allows two-way communication between the driver and their depot-based traffic office.. it sounds a bit like air traffic control for delivery trucks! This allows for the reporting of and proactive response to any issues or delays that may be occurring, ensuring customers recieve their deliveries when expected.

Driver safety

Yodel say that making sure their drivers are safe throughout their shifts is important. Each tractor unit has been fitted with a panic button which will allow quick action and reporting of an emergency situation.

Delivery drivers will also have data on their driving styles that can be accessed through an app, this will provide guidance on how they can build their driving skills and Yodel will also be able to spy on a delivery driver’s driving ability (No pressure!) and offer bespoke training if needed.

“We’re always looking for opportunities to aid our drivers along their routes and keep them safe. Understanding when an incident is taking place using SmartDrive technology and proactively managing safety rather than reactively afterwards, is much more effective.”
– Andy Yemm, Head of Fleet & Transport, Yodel

Over the past few years, the implementations of driving data and guidance has reduced excessive idling by 3,000 hours, this has improved fuel efficiency and reduced the companies carbon footprint. Yodel will continue to work with their drivers to improve these figures further.
