eBay Executive Changes Sept 2020

With the news that Rob Hattrell from eBay UK to become the new Head of eBay Europe and Murray Lambell becoming the General Manager of eBay UK, there are also some other eBay executive changes worth noting.

First and perhaps the most obvious question is what’s happening with Eben Sermon, previously ‘Head of eBay Europe excluding the UK’. Eben is staying with eBay but moving to head up interesting programmes working for eBay Chief Product Officer Pete Thompson running Product Marketing and a set of incubation projects.

Rob has a big task on his hands as he’s not only taking over Eben’s previous role but will still have oversight of the UK thrown on top. The UK side of Rob’s business shouldn’t cause too many headaches as Murray has been his right hand man and natural successor in waiting for a number of years and should be well placed to take over.

To bolster eBay’s other big European country, Germany, which Eben headed as well as running Southern Europe, Eben’s right hand man Oliver Klinck will become Managing Director of eBay Germany. Oliver Klinck has been the Chief Commercial Officer at eBay Germany for the past two years and in this role was already responsible for central areas of the German eBay marketplace, including the entire B2C and C2C business.

The role changes for Rob, Murray, Eben and Oliver make a lot of sense with eBay promoting from within. These appointments come just a few weeks after the appointment of Milan based Alice Acciarri as the new General Manager for Italy and Spain. Rounding up the big five eBay Europe country sites is Celine Saada-Benaben who has been the eBay France Country Manager for the past almost six years.

However there is another change announced with Suzy Deering, eBay VP, Global Chief Marketing Officer leaving the business. Suzy announced her decision saying that after five years at eBay “This decision was not an easy one, but the timing is right for me and it’s time for me to pursue other opportunities“.

  1. In my opinion, every person has absolute freedom in choosing a place where he works, where he will enjoy work and perfection

  2. Hopefully he’s got more of a clue than his predecessors but I won’t hold my breath. The bar is set very low.

  3. Meaningless job titles for meaningless people. Ebay.com call the tune that the rest have to dance to.

  4. Which of you decided to change the email address from buyers to be “@members.ebay.com” ??? It took you 20-something years but hey another step closer to control the buying process.
