Scottish marketplace, Made in Midlothian has launched to house local sellers and will feature authentic locally and ethically made Scottish art, crafts, gifts, and homewares.

According to reports, the in-person Made in Midlothian event was canceled due to COVID-19 and activities were moved online through a dedicated Facebook group supporting the makers through support sessions and weekly shopping events. The group was able to help creatives continue selling and reach wider audiences and after reaching a membership increase of over 200% the decision was made to create the Made in Midlothian marketplace.

“As a local maker, I understand the challenges that people like me are facing and I am delighted that through Made In Midlothian we are able to provide support and guidance to others. I have been blown away by the sheer number of people who have registered from when we started recruiting for the site and cannot thank everyone that has been involved enough. Special thanks to Allen Elvin of Blue Rose Digital.”
– Renae Bell, founding director, MiM

Marketplaces are showing up all over the place to help local sellers of handmade goods continue to connect with buyers, helping keep the economy going, and opening doors for sellers in a new digital future. Made in Midlothian will host listings for thousands of products and hundreds of vendors whilst also providing a home for local artists and a place for shoppers to support the local economy and make purchases.

“Connecting customers with local creatives will help residents to reduce their carbon footprint. When customers spend on our website, they are supporting local businesses and the arts in Midlothian. It will have a positive impact on the environment and the local economy.”
– Shondra Riley, Managing Director, MiM
