Manchester residents may have been advised to stay within the area since tier 3 restrictions, but at least they can still enjoy the convenience of their popular parcel postbox which has been declared one of the busiest in the UK.
The popularity of the parcel postbox is down to a mix of local retailers, online marketplace sellers, and consumers sending out orders and returns. The 24/7 access postboxes have provided a convenient way for residents to post their pre-paid postage parcels at any time of the day just like they would a letter.
According to Royal Mail, The box situated outside the mail centre on Oldham Road is so popular that it is now emptied around 7 or 8 times a day to keep up with demand. The box now receives around 2,500 parcels a week and at peak, around 500 parcels each day.
“The coronavirus pandemic and lockdown has driven major changes in consumer habits, including the way we shop. Manchester is one example of how local businesses, marketplace sellers and online shoppers returning unwanted items are using our parcel postboxes to post parcels both simply and conveniently, through a fast and easy local drop off”.
– Nick Landon, Chief Commercial Officer, Royal Mail
Parcel postboxes were first launched last year and have been a great innovation for the growing demand for parcel services, and an increase in online buying and selling in the UK. Right now with COVID-19, these parcel boxes will be even more popular for those who would rather avoid post offices. There are currently 1400 parcel postboxes across the country and with recent demands, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more arriving.
