SearchNode have recently released their 2021 ecommerce trends report which reveals some interesting insights on how both consumers and ecommerce leaders have been coping this year and what they plan to do in 2021.
Coronavirus shapes ecommerce
Unsurprisingly the SearchNode findings show how the Coronavirus has truly pushed changes in the world of ecommerce. 7 in 10 shoppers said that they started shopping online more than usual due to lockdown and 90% of ecommerce leaders saw their online revenue increase at least a bit, compared to the pre-pandemic period. When asked if preparing for future restrictions 70% said that they are.

Interestingly the report also shows that consumers are expecting free returns on products which will likely be a growing demand in 2021. 59% of respondents claim they will be offering free returns next year.
Buy now, pay later
Payment options seem to have grown in popularity during these testing times. Consumers appreciate the ability to pay overtime and 45% of the respondents will offer financing for their customers next year.
Businesses seem to have implemented social media a lot more this year due to convenience for consumers and less sales falling through. 42% of respondents plan to sell through social media next year whereas a fairly high 33% are still undecided whether it is worthwhile.
Sustainability seems to be growing fast. Good health is obviously on the minds of many and the health of our planet is included.
75% of respondents state that they are addressing environmental challenges in at least one-way. 58% have improved their packaging, 36% are cutting emissions through efficient transportation, 34% are making changes to their products, 30% are making internal changes, and 16% are using more locally made products.
