Kaushalya Somasundaram, Head of Payments Partnerships and Industry Relations at SquareWe are all facing unique challenges right now, and for business owners, the stakes have never been higher. With many businesses forced to close in lockdowns or adapt to operate within government guidelines. For many the most important challenge is cash flow. It’s more important than ever to make sure you’re set-up to accept payments wherever and whenever your customer is ready to pay, and that might be in different places or in different ways to those before the pandemic.

We spoke to Kaushalya Somasundaram, Head of Payments Partnerships and Industry Relations at Square and asked her to share how their solutions can help you accept payments online, in store, on the go, over the phone and on your social media accounts:

So who are Square?

There was a time where everybody carried cash. Then came debit and credit cards and mobiles and today, especially with the pandemic, cash is used less than ever before, with fewer than one in four in-person payments being made with cash. Even before the pandemic it wasn’t unusual for some people to not carry cash, opting to pay for day-to-day items by card. As a result, businesses of all sizes are having to adapt to the changing consumer habits in order to operate. The solution came in 2009 when Square launched the little white card reader that revolutionised how small sellers did business.

Square won sellers with a simple payments product that made accepting fast and secure card payments easy and accessible for small businesses. Since then, our product suite has expanded to include numerous hardware and software products. We expanded our reach, launching our products in Australia, Canada, Japan and the UK.

We launched Square in the UK three years ago to cater to the six million SMEs, many of which were cash only. Businesses have access to our free point-of-sale app and other powerful tools to help run their business – including real time analytics, inventory, location and employee management and ecommerce solutions.

The pandemic means it’s more important than ever that sellers can do three things – get paid, optimise their cash flow and understand exactly how healthy their business is. Here’s how Square can help you run and adapt your business more safely and with speed and ease.

Sell anywhere with Square

Square can integrate with your existing site or help you build a new site to accept payments. But Square can do so much more – if you’ve ever had a customer that wanted to discuss an order over the phone, with Square you can use your computer to take card payments with Square Virtual Terminal. And if you don’t have a website, Square Online Checkout is also perfect if you want to put out an offer on social media or email as it’s a really quick and easy way for your customers to pay. With Square Online, you can connect your item library to your Instagram account to make your posts shoppable and turn your followers into buyers.

Square Reader enables you to take in-person payments literally anywhere so if you run a market stall or sell at festivals then customers will never have the barrier to an immediate purchase of not having sufficient cash in their pocket. Best of all, your online and in-person payments sync perfectly with a single free analytics solution on the Square Dashboard to keep you on top of your cash flow.

And it doesn’t stop there, for those with retail premises, Square have Point of Sale solutions and just last week we added the Square Kitchen Display System for Square for Restaurants, our solution for food outlets.

With easy to set up, easy to use and flexible solutions, Square can help your business grow and diversify quickly, simply and reliably.

Optimise Cash flow

Keeping your cash flowing is the lifeblood of a business and here at Square we have the physical devices such as Square Reader, Square Terminal and Square Stand and the software including Square Online Checkout and Square Point of Sale to ensure your payments are effortless. You can even offer digital or physical gift cards as another way your customers can purchase from you. Best of all, all your payments take place on the same platform with fast next day payouts to your bank.

Better understand your business

The Square Point of Sale system with its reporting dashboard, online payment solutions and Square Stand cater for store sales with the addition of Square Reader making it easy to accept payments online, by phone or in-person for collections with click and collect. At the same time Square will keep all your reporting and analytics in one place so you always know exactly what your takings are.

Here at Square we can also offer solutions for restaurants so no matter what type of business you expand into, with Square as your partner you’ll never have to worry about how you’ll transact.

One Response

  1. We have been with Square for the last 18 months on our website taking payments and it’s brilliant. Something I don’t think about as it is very automated and initially very quick to set up.
