We started a Tamebay Black Friday Delivery Speed Test as a small scale check on how well delivery promises are being kept. We’ve seen multiple marketplaces extend delivery promises this year including both eBay and Amazon, so how well are they meeting their extended estimated delivery dates?
In the Tamebay Black Friday Delivery Speed Test we made 15 purchases across the Amazon, eBay and OnBuy marketplaces with a variety of estimated delivery dates and different carriers. We accepted whatever the first postage offered was and also, noting that on Amazon all purchases were from Amazon FBA, wanted to see if Amazon Logistics would carry out the deliveries or if alternative carriers were used.
All purchases were made between 10.15am and 10.30am on Black Friday 2020, the 27th of November. We will be regularly updating results until all items are received. Much more important than speed, what we really want to know is if delivery promises are met. It’s worth noting the estimated delivery times have been pushed out by the marketplaces to anything up to 10 days or more.

With two thirds of purchases having now been delivered, it’s clear that carriers may be performing much better than marketplace expectations.
All 10 items delivered so far have been at least one day earlier than the latest expected delivery date. More impressively, all bar one have arrived before the earliest estimated delivery date with the outlier arriving on the earliest expected day. Of course with five still to be delivered this may change.
One further point of interest, all five Amazon parcels were delivered via Amazon Logistics.

Were the packages sent by the class of postal service advertised?
For the ones advertised as Standard or Other 48h please let us know who they were sent with.
We’re tracking the services used – both for ‘Standard’ and ‘Other 48 hour courier’… watch for further updates for this 🙂
Hi Chris – this is unrelated and I am uncertain where to post, so apologise for confusing the thread in advance. I am interested in the Royal Mail “International Data Incentive – USA” Has any other business achieved this standard and if so, how is it reflected on the RM invoice? I am struggling to see any sign of it….Help from self and the community would be appreciated……
It is more of a useful measure in the days following Black Friday and Cyber Monday that would be a better measure on carrier/amazon performances, as this would include how it is coping with a backlog of parcels (which all will inevitably have) and fast it clears.
This would give more of an insight to a carriers ability to manage it network.
Hey Warren, the three Christmas present parcels I sent my family via ParcelForce48 all arrived yesterday bang on time. One to Hampshire, one to the Isle of Wight and one to Somerset (all sent from Berkshire). I’d say that’s one courier performing well across Southern England 🙂
We’re having a total nightmare with late deliveries.
I think we must have 50+ stuck in the network.
It’s items posted on RM24 / RM48, they are both taking at least 10 (working) days to get delivered to UK postcodes.
I’ve spoken to my RM account manager, he has been helpful but my guess is mountains of roll cages at the centres due to the RM’s annual lack of capacity ‘catching them by surprise’
