Amazon and Enterprise Nation are running Women in Tech, an online event on Wednesday the 10th of March aimed at helping women founders embrace technology to grow their business as part of International Women’s Day activities.

Women in Tech

Women in Tech is part of the Amazon Small Business Accelerator, a programme created to provide free training and support to over 200,000 UK small businesses and start-ups with Enterprise Nation, the UK’s leading small business network and business support provider.

The event is supported by the combined force of 50 local authorities in the East of England and will feature a Q&A panel discussion amongst established women in technology: Lauren Kisser, Director of AI at Amazon’s development centre in Cambridge, Mary Agbesanwa – PWC Fintech programme lead, Tanuvi Ethunandan, CEO & Co-founder of Data Duopoly and Joy Foster – Founder and CEO of TechPixies. Chloe Smith, Conservative MP for Norwich North and Minister of State for the Cabinet Office will open the event.

“This event is aimed at highlighting the importance of digital adoption for women in entrepreneurship by hearing from women who operate at the very heart of technology and understand its relevance for business and beyond.

We have seen a dramatic change in the way businesses operate in the past 12 months, with digital becoming front and centre of business operations. We need to see businesses embrace this new world and learn new skills that will help them to grow beyond COVID-19.”
– Emma Jones, CBE, founder of Enterprise Nation and chair of the event

“I’m thrilled to be taking part in this International Women’s Day event alongside a talented panel. It’s vital that we support women business owners in championing positive change, and one great way of doing that is in embracing the power of digital skills. This event will provide the inspiration and practical advice which I know entrepreneurs are seeking. I look forward to sharing my journey and learnings.”
– Lauren Kisser, Director of AI, Amazon development centre in Cambridge

The event will give attendees access to an hour-long all-women panel sharing their career journeys as women in technology, insights on the importance of digital skills for start-ups, what support is available for small businesses and their hopes for the future of women choosing tech entrepreneurship as a career choice.

There will also be a speed networking event afterwards to allow businesses to chat in virtual booths.

Despite the impact COVID-19 has had on small and medium-sized businesses, tens of thousands of UK-based businesses have been selling their products in Amazon’s stores across the world with the company providing practical support and services to help them grow via the Amazon Small Business Accelerator. More than 60% of UK businesses selling on Amazon export to customers all over the globe. In 2019 they achieved total export sales of more than £2.75bn and supported more than 85,000 job opportunities in the UK.

While this event is aimed at providing support for women, this event is open to all founders and entrepreneurs that have signed up to the Amazon Small Business Accelerator. To access Women in Tech, register in advance.
