eBay for Change video diary: Karakorum

eBay for Change has recently been announced and over the next few weeks’ we’re going to be sharing video diary episodes with you, featuring some of the businesses in the programme. First up today is Stroud based Natasha von Memerty, the founder of Karakorum.

Karakorum is a social enterprise which sells home décor, specialising in handmade artisan crafts made by craftspeople across Iran, Laos, Kenya and beyond.

Natasha founded Karakorum after a life changing two-year trip around the world, which inspired her to set up a business selling ethically sourced local handmade crafts using only the finest sustainable materials. You can hear from Natasha all about how Karakorum is working with small artisan groups in rural communities to ensure they earn a living wage, meaning that each purchase made with Karakorum can bring a positive benefit to these individuals’ lives. She also shares what she hopes to get from the eBay for Change programme and her experience of it so far.

The one thing that struck me from Natasha’s video diary was when she said “Behind every item that we buy, there’s a person. And that person has a name and a story and what we purchase has the ability to directly affect them”.

The eBay for Change sellers, many brand new to eBay, are all selling to support real people’s abilities to earn a living. So if you have a friend or family birthday coming up in the near future, browse Natasha’s beautiful products on her Karakorum eBay shop.

You’ll also find many other products supporting social enterprises on eBay for Change hub available to buy today.
