We have been publishing the stories behind the 2021 eBay for Business Awards winners and today it is the final award and we’re pleased to introduce the winner of the Lockdown Lift Off award is Moe Omar and Mooky Kickz
During lockdown last year, Moe suddenly had a lot more time on his hands due to being put on furlough. Despite enjoying the extra time with his children, he was keen to start a new business venture to focus on.
At a similar time, Moe was searching online for a specific pair of trainers for his partner’s birthday. However, he quickly realised that finding these sought-after shoes was easier said than done. After eventually finding the birthday present, he started to wonder if other people had found themselves in a similar position. From this, the idea of Mooky Kickz was hatched.
Moe researched other resellers on eBay and decided to set up on the platform, selling newly ‘dropped’ trainers and other high demand designs. His business involved a lot of early mornings waiting for trainers to come up for sale, but Moe was making progress.
Soon his old bedroom in his mum’s house was full to the brim of stock and his profit was climbing to thousands of pounds per month. He quickly moved into a commercial storage unit, giving him the opportunity to expand and a quiet place to work.
Moe says that eBay has provided him with a platform to make his “dreams become a reality” and his participation in eBay’s Authenticity Programme has given his customers even more peace of mind that his products are all genuine.
“Having been furloughed at the start of the pandemic, I feel so privileged that I’ve been able to create a successful eBay business in just a matter of months. I started Mooky Kickz after looking for a pair of sneakers on my own and realising just how much demand there was on eBay from the sneakerhead community for limited edition and collectible trainers. I’m so pleased to have won the Lockdown Lift Off Award this year and to be able to celebrate how far Mooky Kickz has come. Demand for sneakers is only on the rise, so I’m excited to see where my business goes in future!”
