Online marketplace ArtFire has officially closed its doors after changes in regulations and the increasing complexity of operating caused founding team members to move on to new things.

The online marketplace provided artists and crafters with a space to sell products but with competition like Etsy, it is no surprise that this 13-year-old marketplace, alongside many others, has had to shut shop.

In their closing statement, the company discusses their successes, proudly ending their reign after helping many small businesses and artists grow.

“ArtFire was an online marketplace and community that brought together buyers and sellers of artistic goods. ArtFire was home for handmade goods, fine art, vintage, certain designed items, traditional craft supplies, and maker-created media. ArtFire was built as a marketplace for artisans by artisans to celebrate the unique individuality of artists and crafters around the globe. ArtFire was the complete e-commerce solution for all artists looking to sell their wares online.”

“ArtFire was launched in 2008 and was operated by the original owners and team until December of 2021. Changes in regulations and the increasing complexity of operating an online marketplace made the continued operation more challenging in the final years and the members of the founding team moved on to new projects.”

“ArtFire proudly helped artists sell more than $250 million USD in goods globally over many years with very low to zero commission on those sales. For that reason, the ArtFire staff feels that our support of artists helped change lives and improve the business capabilities of many millions of artists. Helping that many people makes us feel like the years were well spent.”
