Wish becomes an Invite-Only Platform for New Merchants

Online Marketplace Wish has announced the introduction of a new ‘invite-only’ merchant selection process which means sellers need to participate and pass a multi-step qualification process before being allowed to sell on the platform.

The new invite-only process has likely been implemented to help Wish create a platform that focuses on merchants who can provide a high standard of service to customers. It will replace the previous open merchant account sign-up process via merchant.wish.com

Sellers already settled on the platform need not worry about this new policy as it will only be for new merchants wishing *no pun intended* to sell on the marketplace. It does mean that the onboarding process will create a new barrier but we imagine any well-established brands are not likely to face too many hurdles during this process. The most important point to note here is that any onboarding policys will help ensure the marketplace is a safe and trustworthy space for consumers and brands.

Our overall goal is to create a fun environment for users to shop for quality products online, and this starts at the moment of merchant sign-up. The addition of an ‘invite-only’ sign-up experience will go a long way as we focus on partnering with higher-quality merchants. It’s just one of many features we will be rolling out this year to improve the user experience on Wish.

– Mauricio Monico, Vice President of Product for Merchants and Logistics, Wish

All new merchants seeking to gain access to Wish worldwide buyers will first need to complete a brief questionnaire on merchant.wish.com. The Wish team will then review and evaluate each request, taking into consideration several attributes such as product categories, channel partnerships, and ecommerce performance history.
