DoorDash to deliver Facebook Marketplace purchases in the U.S.

DoorDash will be an option for local U.S. Facebook Marketplace deliveries, according to The Wall Street Journal who reveal that Meta have formed some kind of partnership with the food delivery platform. Now, consumers will benefit from added convenience when purchasing from local sellers on the marketplace.

This move is likely another way for Meta to try and retain younger audiences who are opting for competitors like TikTok. Recently, Meta announced the closing of Facebook Live Shopping due to this very reason. Considering the popularity of Facebook Marketplace, it is a smart move for Meta to expand on features for those using Facebook’s already well established ecommerce services that competitors are not currently replicating.

There is not much information on the extent of this partnership between Meta and DoorDash as both seem to be keeping quiet on future plans. We do know that the service is currently being trialled and is available to select users in the country. Items are available for delivery as long as they can fit in the back of a car and can be no more than 15 miles away. For DoorDash, it looks like a way to expand their offerings to more than just food delivery.

Meta will now have a few delivery options for buyers and sellers in the U.S. including DoorDash, Dolly and the ability to send directly to customers using your own arranged services. It will be interesting to see how Meta will expand on this partnership and form others in the future.
