TikTok Book Club drives book sales

Books were supposed to have died out by now, ereaders were going to replace them with any regular commuter familiar with fellow travellers whipping out their latest novel to read on the train or underground. But the printed book has seen a revival in recent years and TikTok #BookTok has embraced the way to find new and exciting literature to read with a new take on the Book Club.

#BookTok has brought together book-lovers from around the world, with nearly 65 billion views to date. TikTok Book Club will serve as a virtual space for the TikTok community to discuss new titles together and the best thing about the TikTok Book Club is that anyone can join.

The TikTok Book Club will continue throughout the Summer and beyond, with new titles being announced every month, allowing readers to discover new authors and genres, share and connect with likeminded people and embrace their creativity, wherever they are in the world. As TikTok becomes a cosy corner where communities can experience the joy the reading together.

Each month, a new book will be announced and we are inviting fellow book-lovers to read along and come together in-app to share their experiences. There will also be a #BookClub hub in app, so users can easily find out about the month’s title, and start creating and sharing their own reviews, book aesthetics or newest literary crush!

The first book for discussion in July is Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Jane Austen herself, even has a dedicated community of followers on TikTok who share their love her books collectively under the hashtag #AustenTok which now has 16.2m views.

Five BookTok Laureates have been announced – @li.reading, @jackbenedwards, @cocosarel, @Bmercer and @edenreidreads – all passionate about literature and will help guide the #BookClub over the month, taking the community on their journey as they dive into the novel and share their thoughts in a content series in-app. At the end each month, this will culminate in a co-hosted LIVE to discuss the novel in depth.

TikTok Book Club is having a real world impact on book sales globally, good news for book sellers. If you are inspired to expand your library, make the effort to buy from your local book shop – if you don’t have time to visit at least look to see if you can purchase from them online.

If you are a book seller, get active in the TikTok Book Club as that’s where your next customers are probably hanging out.
