Selling to Switzerland with Amazon FBA

No primary category set

Amazon have enabled sellers with Swiss VAT IDs to deliver products to Switzerland using Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) Exports Programme. If you have provided a valid Swiss VAT ID and Swiss tax address in Seller Central your eligible FBA offers across the European Amazon Stores will automatically become available for Swiss customers to purchase.

With a population of around 8.7 million, Switzerland is the world’s wealthiest country per capita and so an attractive country to target. Like the UK, the Swiss have an extraordinary high online spend with Clothes and Shoes being top categories, followed by Beauty, Media, and Accessories (Jewellery, watches, handbags etc).

Under Swiss VAT law (effective as of January 1, 2019), sellers are responsible for registering for VAT in Switzerland and collecting Swiss VAT on sales of low value imported goods (LVIG) where a cumulative annual threshold of CHF 100,000 across all sales channels has been exceeded.

It is your responsibility to upload a valid Swiss VAT ID and Swiss tax address to Seller Central where this threshold has been exceeded. Failure to provide this information may result in a temporary suspension of your FBA sales in Switzerland until the following financial year. Amazon advise you to consult with your tax advisor for more information regarding your obligations in Switzerland.

If you do not wish to export to Switzerland, you can remove Switzerland from your FBA Export eligible countries at any time by clicking  here.

If you are a Swiss VAT registered entity, you will be declared the importer of record for products fulfilled to Switzerland via FBA Export.  Amazon will use your Swiss VAT ID and Swiss tax address to populate the import declaration on your behalf. Amazon will use its deferment account to facilitate import clearance. Additionally, if you are enrolled in VAT Calculation Services, Amazon will issue Swiss VAT invoices on your orders delivered to customers in Switzerland.
