Twitter begins testing controversial $7.99 blue tick

No primary category set

It’s standard knowledge that Elon Musk recently purchased twitter for a staggering $44 billion. This move, that set in motion a chain of planned changes on the social media platform has created quite a stir within the Twitter community. One particular stir was from the announcement that the famous blue tick would be costing $7.99 a month.

According to Elon, they have no choice but to charge for the tick when the company is losing over $4M a day. Interestingly the ones who are most upset by this news are within the rich and famous crowd such as from author Stephen King who believes the company should be paying him.

What we should note is that any brands or businesses who previously had a blue tick will now have to pay a fee if they want to keep it, no matter their financial situation. On the other hand it will make it easier for businesses who want a blue tick to get one, a move that is said to help people identify reputable brands.

Eagle eyed twitter users have spotted things happening on the horizon, speculating that the new Twitter Blue had been launched but it was later confirmed that there is no official launch yet and users are seeing them testing and pushing changes to the new feature in real-time.

The new Blue isn’t live yet — the sprint to our launch continues but some folks may see us making updates because we are testing and pushing changes in real-time. The Twitter team is legendary.

New Blue… coming soon!
