Zalando have pulled their Zircle app, the peer-to-peer marketplace experience where consumers could buy and sell to and from other users, as well as sell to Zalando directly. They are not abandoning the circular economy but bringing the resale of fashion into their main marketplace.
Zircle says goodbye:
No need to be sad: In order to offer you the best experience when buying and selling second-hand fashion, we are now fully focused on pre-owned on Zalando.
– Zalando
Relaunched in 2021, Zircle aimed to make selling and buying pre-owned fashion easier than ever and spread from Germany to multiple European countries. Enabling customers to prolong the life of their clothing through Zircle aimed to contribute to Zalando’s mission to be the starting point for fashion and a more sustainable fashion platform.
Zalando Pre-owned is the place to go on the main Zalando marketplace, where you can still buy and sell preloved clothes in exchange for gift cards. It’s worth noting that Zircle was launched when Zalando didn’t cater for pre-owned fashion on their main site and so the app being discontinued marks it as more of a stepping stone to a circular economy than a failed enterprise.
Zalando say that they remain committed to helping consumers extend the life of their garments and will focus on the pre-owned category in the Zalando Fashion store. We believe that all Zircle employees have found new positions within Zalando.
