Kaufland commission rates change

Kaufland commission structure has just changed, which has increased fees in some categories

Kaufland a renowned brand German brand with brick-and-mortar supermarkets attracts customers across eight European countries and also operate as a marketplace Kaufland.de. Retailers on the marketplace need to be aware that the Kaufland commission structure has just changed, which has increased fees in some categories. Thanks go to Jesse Wragg of eCommeleon for spotting the update.

Kaufland commission from 7% (tech) to 16% (jewellery). The rates that are changing are:

  • The changes have created a new tier for bikes/e-bikes with a 13% commission rate. This was previously part of tools & garden at 10%.
  • Pets and camping (which was part of the sports & outdoor category), and fitness devices now attract a commission rate of 15% compared to the previous 13%.

Selling on Kaufland, is pretty straight forward. Unlike OTTO, you don’t need to have a German business entity, though German product data is necessary. You can easily open up an account if you’re selling on one of the International Marketplace Network partner marketplaces (Cdiscount, eMAG, or ePrice). The basic requirements to sell on the marketplace are:

  • a registered business seller
  • ensuring customer service communication in German (at least in writing)
  • providing product content in German, offering products that have an official EAN code (GTIN)
  • being able to ship products to Germany and handle returns
  • being registered through VAT OSS or VAT in Germany

The total cost of selling on Kaufland.de is calculated based on the monthly fees and commission from successful sales. At the time of writing, a monthly subscription fee is €39.95 and includes features such as setting unlimited product listings, diverse marketing or personal support. For an additional €10 per month, you can link your online store to the Kaufland.de seller account.

  1. This isn’t quite as easy to sell as mentioned.
You can have a VAT OSS (registered in NL) but Kaufland won’t accept it from a UK company, it has to be an EU registered COMPANY…but surely that is the whole point of OSS system so UK company can get an OSS VAT to sell in EU?
Wasted a lot of time on trying to get this sorted.
