eBay x Oxfam Fashion Fighting Poverty 23

Last night, eBay and Oxfam joined forces to take London Fashion Week by storm staging the Fashion Fighting Poverty 23 show. In the pre-loved extravaganza, a line-up of stars including Daisy Lowe and Tasha Ghouri took to the catwalk, dressed head to toe in second-hand items.

Shining a light on all things pre-loved and championing the environmental benefits of circular fashion, the show well and truly flipped the myth that second-hand is second best.  The runway of unique pre-loved looks proved there’s something wonderful for everyone whatever their taste and style.

From Frank Usher to Ralph Lauren and Thierry Mugler, designer garments were worn by model Daisy Lowe, presenter Miquita Oliver, actor Greta Bellamacina, leading author and eBay ambassador, Aja Barber, trainspotting social media sensation, Francis Bourgeois, and eBay’s very first pre-loved ambassador, Tasha Ghouri. Styled by Bay Garnett, trailblazer in sustainable fashion, the looks exemplified how pre-loved fashion deserves a place on the centre stage, not the back of the wardrobe.

For one week only, the catwalk looks, plus a special Fashion Fighting Poverty 23 edit, are available to purchase on an eBay for Charity auction, allowing anyone the opportunity to get their hands on the top looks from the evening and bring runway outfits to their own wardrobe. Prices start from just £7.99 and all proceeds will raise funds for Oxfam.

eBay’s sponsorship of Oxfam’s Fighting Fashion Poverty show extends the online marketplace’s efforts to show that fashion doesn’t have to last one season – it can go on and have many lives. Following a 1600% increase in searches for ‘pre-loved clothes’, eBay recently renewed its partnership with Love Island for a second series, showing how easy it is to introduce pre-loved clothing into wardrobes and style these pieces with existing clothes. eBay also offers an Authenticity Guarantee programme which aims to give shoppers confidence when buying pre-loved luxury sneakers, watches, and handbags, as well as an Imperfects range – fashion’s answer to wonky veg – which offers clothes, shoes, and accessories from top brands with slight imperfections at huge discounts.

eBay’s pre-loved ambassador and Love Island finalist Tasha Ghouri, wore a King Louie, chequered matching suit, followed by a hot pink mini dress for her second look. Leading author and eBay ambassador, Aja Barber wore a light mint-coloured peacoat over a black jumpsuit, accessorised by chunky sandals.

Monroe Bergdorf took to the catwalk runway in a long black velvet dress with puff sleeves, offset by silver shoes. Presenter Miquita Oliver wore a red Frank Usher shimmer bomber jacket, with a red mini skirt while Francois Bourgeois, walked in a grey Prince of Wales chequered suit, with  a pop of peach coming from his Pierre Cardin shirt.

International model Daisy Lowe, wore a black velvet mini zip dress, with chunky black biker boots, with fashion model Erin O’Connor wearing a matching black velvet Ralph Lauren suit.

Championing circular fashion is central to what we do here at eBay, as well as providing a vital fundraising platform for charity partners through eBay for Charity. That’s why partnering with Oxfam, another flagbearer for all things pre-loved, was a no brainer for us this London Fashion Week. We’ve done a lot to remove the stigma around preloved clothing and to champion an approach to shopping that’s better for people, the planet, and your pockets. We have a way to go, but I’m delighted we’ve been able to partner with Oxfam to spotlight pre-loved and raise crucial funding in this way.

It was a dream come true to walk my first catwalk at London Fashion Week this evening, especially for such a great cause. It’s amazing to see pre-loved clothing in the spotlight, being modelled by such an impressive array of stars, so we can show the possibility of pre-loved clothing. Since becoming eBay’s pre-loved ambassador, I’ve learnt so much about the importance of circular fashion and it’s through doing events like this that we’ll continue to raise awareness and overturn the narrative.

– Tasha Ghouri, Pre-loved Ambassador, eBay UK

Fashion Fighting Poverty 23 is a celebration of sustainable second-hand fashion and style, which not only looks great but does good in the world.  Oxfam is grateful for eBay’s sponsorship of the show. Both brands are passionate about second-hand fashion and the vast choice it offers shoppers of every taste and style. We promote choosing pre-loved as a positive action we can all take to help fight the climate emergency, while having fun with dressing too.

Shopping second-hand extends the life of clothes and slows the demand for brand new. And tonight’s show proves just how fresh that second life can be. All these clothes were donated to Oxfam by generous people who perhaps would never have guessed they’d end up in a London Fashion Week show, looking incredible and raising funds to help save lives around the world.
