C2C selling FREE from today on eBay Germany

From today, the 1st of March 2023, C2C selling has become free for private sellers eBay Germany. C2C sellers on eBay.de will no longer pay listing fees or final value fees on their sales. Previously private sellers would have been paying 11% final value fees plus a fixed €0.35 transaction fee.

We know that fees have been the biggest hurdle for private sellers to sell on eBay. The change in fees not only means an attractive opportunity for additional income for private sellers, but also a wider range of inexpensive and used items on eBay.de. This allows consumers to save when shopping on the eBay marketplace in economically challenging times and at the same time give used things a second life.

eBay’s German free selling play highlights the security of the marketplace compared to some platforms. They say that unlike classifieds platforms, sales on eBay.de are completed directly and are legally binding. The secure, integrated and free payment process, without passing on bank details to third parties, guarantees that an item will only be shipped once the payment has been confirmed.

Before you get too excited, we understand that this change for C2C selling is very specific to the German marketplace and currently unlikely to be replicated on other eBay sites around the world or even in Europe. We’re definitely not expecting to see free C2C selling in the UK on eBay.

eBay Germany have also explained that the move should benefit business sellers on the marketplace. They explain that buyers that also sell go on to spend considerably more than a buyer that has never sold a single item. This indeed is why you’ll so often see private seller cheap listing days still promoted from time to time around the world.

The better we can respond to current needs, the more attractive eBay.de is for consumers. A look at our numbers shows that customers who sell on eBay.de shop on average twice as much on eBay.de as customers who only use eBay to buy. Our commercial sellers also benefit from this.

German consumers will be seeing eBay’s “Let it go. For free.” campaign to promote free C2C Selling. The campaign includes channels such as TV, Out Of Home, Cinema, Online Video and Social (Instagram, TikTok).
