Dulux Engagement – step-by-step guides for simple upcycling projects
- Lightly sand entire table if it is very smooth or has loose paint/splintering
- Apply tile adhesive to an area with a notched trowel
- Lay tiles to same area using tile spacers
- Let adhesive dry for 24 hours (may be quicker and we can add heat to speed up)
- Apply the grout with a grout spreader
- Wipe excess grout from tiles with a damp sponge
- Use paint brush to paint legs and all exposed wood in the Dulux multi-surface paint – used here in Fresh Foliage – which can be painted directly onto wood
- Remove hardware from selected vintage sideboard
- Lightly sand the piece where necessary
- Wipe sanding dust off using lint free cloths
- Paint sideboard x 2 coats in your chosen multi-surfaceDulux Simply Refresh Multi-Surface paint – we’ve gone for the shade Pine Needle. Leave at least 3-4 hours between coats
- When dry, add new knobs.
- Measure and use hand saw to wood slats to desired length
- Sand cut edges
- Stain wood and allow to dry 2 hours minimum
- Apply command strips to back of slats
- Apply tape horizontally across wall at top height
- Using a level and spacers, stick slats to wall, spaced evenly
- Apply a slat horizontally at the top of the vertical slats to finish the look (like a dado rail)
How to: Revamp a vintage stool
- Remove top from pre-loved stool if necessary
- Sand stool body
- Paint stool body in selected multi-surface Dulux paint – probably 2 coats and let dry 2-3 hours between coats
- Once dry, staple (or use fabric glue) to attach the new fabric. Using a neutral paint shade – such as Dulux Simply Refresh Multi Surface in Natural Calico – will help the fabric pattern to pop.
How to: Make your own candle holder
- Prep an area – plastic sheet on a table etc
- Roll out air dry clay with a rolling pin or substitute
- Arrange bottles (these can be old wine bottles or mason jars)
- Shape clay over bottles, using a small sponge to smooth clay edges
- Cut holes for candlesticks
- Let dry overnight (you can speed this up in the oven)
- Add candlesticks
