New Fee – Amazon EPR Pay on Behalf

Amazon EPR Pay is an additional service fee coming into effect from the 29th of March 2023.

If you are selling products relevant for Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) on Amazon.fr to customers with a shipping address in France and you are considered a “Producer” within the meaning of art. L. 541-10-9 of the French Environment Code, you should have provided Amazon with a valid Unique Identification Number (UIN) for each category of EPR applicable products. This implies that you will be paying the EPR fees yourself.

If you don’t, Amazon will have been paying your EPR fees for you and now they are going to charge a service fee as of the 29th of March.

In accordance with the EPR Requirements Policy for Third-Party Sellers in France, if you did not provide your UINs on Amazon Compliance Information for EPR portal, Amazon will, by default, declare and pay the corresponding EPR eco-contributions to the relevant Producer Responsibility Organizations on your behalf and recover these amounts from you.

Amazon EPR Pay Fees

The service fee is €24.99 + 3% of the eco-contributions Amazon pay on your behalf for each EPR category. The service fee is applicable annually. EPR Pay on Behalf service will be offered free of charge for the calendar year of 2023 to the Selling Partners who made their first sales on Amazon.fr between 1 January 2023 and 31 December 2023 (both dates included).

Bearing in mind that , for low volumes of paper or card, the EPR environmental tax could cost you as little as €39 total per year, and if you sell on venues other than Amazon you’ll still have to pay the fee, you should consider registering yourself as it is likely to prove cheaper in the long run. However, beware of plastics – that’ll start to bump up the total you are obliged to pay so avoid using poly bags if you can.
