Amazon test Small Business Search filter

Small Business Search filter

As part of their ongoing efforts to support small businesses, Amazon are testing a Small Business Search filter. This new feature test has been announced for multiple Amazon country sites, including both the UK and the US.

The Small Business Search filter helps customers filter their searches to discover products from small business brands and artisans while shopping in Amazon’s store.

When a customer’s search results include eligible products from small business brands, the new filter will appear under the “Business Type” category in their search filter options.

Small Business Search filter qualification

As Amazon test this feature, any small business brand that meets the Small Business badge criteria and has the badge featured on their products in search or detail pages is eligible to be included in Small Business Search filter results.

How do you get the Small Business Badge?

It was almost a year ago that Amazon launched the Small Business Badge to make it easier than ever for customers to identify products from small business brands and artisans in Amazon’s store. The badge can be found in search results and on detail pages for products from eligible small businesses.

However, to get the badge you need to be registered with Brand Registry or Amazon Handmade. If your business is eligible to be identified as a Small Business in the Amazon store, all products within your registered brands automatically receive the Small Business Badge.

What this means is that largely on small businesses that are brands will become eligible for the increased exposure on the site. This shouldn’t be a huge surprise – Amazon have for many years been looking to cut the fat from the supply chain and remove box shifters from the equation. Their focus is on getting the product from the manufacturer to the customer in the fewest possible steps, viewing box shifters buying and selling as taking a margin that could better be passed on to the consumer.
