Over the last Bank Holiday weekend, eBay.com inadvertently changed available quantities on a number of listings with international shipping options while making site updates.
On May 26, 2023 an update was made to listings with international shipping options. As part of this recent change, we inadvertently increased the quantity on some listings.– eBay.com
This as you can imagine caused a great deal of consternation to sellers who oversold stock they didn’t have, or discovered that listings currently in Out Of Stock mode (a way to keep a listing live with zero inventory to hold position in search when new stock arrives) had sales with no product available.
After many panicked calls to eBay support, they’ve posted an announcement acknowledging the issue saying:
We understand that this may have caused sellers to cancel orders or issue refunds but we’re working to correct these quantity errors. Here’s what you need to know about the recent update:
- We’ve updated any listing to show the correct quantity available and quantity sold.
- For listings where sellers manually revised the quantity, we won’t make any changes.
- For sellers who had to cancel orders, received negative feedback, or had stockout strikes during our update, we’ll ensure that their seller rating isn’t affected.
Hopefully if you didn’t notice any errors you’ll find that your available quantities on listings is back where it should be. However if you’ve had sales and discovered you don’t actually have the stock, this may be the reason why.
If you sell on eBay.com and have international shipping options on your listings, it may be worth carrying out a spot check of your available quantities to ensure everything is back as it should be.
