Not many people are aware that Prime Day, which started on the 15th July, 2015, was to celebrate Amazon’s 20th Birthday! This week, they held their 10th Amazon Prime Day and over the 10 events the sales numbers are truely staggering.
We’ve pulled together as many of the actual numbers available in the chart above, along with estimates for the missing years. And we’ve added in a gold bar for 2024 to celebrate the more than 200 million products sold this year by small businesses selling on Amazon!
The best estimate is that the number of items sold this year take Amazon over (or at worst close to) 2 billion products sold on Prime Day over the 10 sales events that they’ve held, but the true figure won’t yet be available as India holds Prime Day later in the year!
From the first Prime Day where 34.4 million products were sold, to today where sold items are measured in 100s of millions, it’s been an incredible journey for Amazon and firmly established Prime Day as a premier sales event.
Indeed, Prime Day is now so ingrained in society that the ‘Summer Sales’ from just about every retailer launch as soon as Prime Day goes live on Amazon.
