There are a three key compliance dates coming up for brands and retailers on Amazon that will need addressing in 2024. The impact for non-compliance for all three is listing deactivation which will instantly cut off sales so addressing the regulation requirements is key.
Below are the key compliance dates for batteries (18th August), GPSR (13th December) and single use plastics (1st January 2025), along with the actions you will need to take. These regulations will also apply on other channels you sell on, so will have to be addressed even if you don’t sell on Amazon.
Amazon EU & UK 2024 Key Compliance Dates
EU Batteries Regulation
Deadline – 18th August 2024
You are impacted if sell standalone batteries and batteries contained within a product in EU
Action 1 – Provide your EU-based Responsible Person information
Action 2 – Register for EPR in each EU member state where you sell batteries, or get the registration number from your upstream supplier if you’re not a producer.
Consequence for non-compliance – Listing deactivation if Amazon become aware of non-compliance with the Responsible Person requirement, or discover that the information provided is invalid.
Listing deactivation or auto-enrollment in Amazon’s ‘Pay on Behalf’ service for EPR requirements, depending on the EU country where you sell your products.
General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR)
Deadline – 13th December 2024
You are impacted if sell sell non-food products in the EU
Action – Provide your EU-based Responsible Person information
Consequences for non-compliance – Listing deactivation if Amazon become aware of non-compliance with any of the requirements, or discover that the Responsible Person information provided is invalid.
Single-Use Plastics
Deadline – 1st January 2025
You are impacted if you sell products containing single-use plastic on Amazon.de
Action – Register in DIVID here
if you are not a producer you should be able to get the registration number from your upstream supplier rather than register yourself. Amazon will be in contact with details on how to submit your registration numbers to Amazon by Q3-Q4 2024.
