Poland is an interesting country with ecommerce dominated by Allegro for years – mainly because of the language barrier, Polish isn’t widely spoken in any other European country. Then along came Amazon who have taken up a chunk of consumer spend, with Kaufland now lining up to be the potential third biggest marketplace.
Kaufland also have an advantage, they’re not starting from a standing start having around 245 Polish brick-and-mortar stores and a brand that’s already known in Poland. This makes for a superb springboard to launch the marketplace and grab a share of ecommerce in Poland at a rapid pace.
A side benefit of Kaufland Poland will also open up Europe to Polish retailers – once they are live on Kaufland Poland, it’s a relatively short step to launching on their massive German marketplace and from their spread to further country sites, with an international Fulfillment by Kaufland service.
