Asda becomes dropship marketplace stocking Decathlon

Asda is planning to extend its online product range, across multiple categories and has selected Virtualstock to enable their new dropship marketplace.

One of the first sellers to go live on george.com is Decathlon, which will be ranging a selection of quality sporting equipment, and many more sellers are expected to be added in the coming weeks.

Working with Virtualstock has enabled us to extend our range to customers by onboarding trusted brands such as Decathlon. This has given us the opportunity to appeal to a wider customer audience and grow our revenue.

– Andrew Thompson, Senior Manager eCommerce Portfolio, Asda

A dropship marketplace is where a brand acts a little like a marketplace in that the transaction occurs on their site and the supplier of the goods still ships as if it was a traditional marketplace transaction. However the mechanics and relationships behind the transaction are markedly different. UK examples include Curry’s, Robert Dyas and John Lewis to name just a few dropship platforms.

Brand’s like Asda will want to consider your products in terms of range extension on their website. They will select products to carry along more traditional retail lines than on an open marketplace like an eBay or Amazon. They will also be highly selective of which partners to work with as they act as the merchant or record and will want to ensure that their customer experience is upheld.

We are delighted to have partnered with Asda. This is a continuation of an emerging trend to grow online sales through carefully selected partners to create a curated online extended range.

– Ed Bradley, CEO, Virtualstock
