AliExpress discounts, prizes and livestream for UK shoppers in 11.11 Global Shopping event

International online retail marketplace AliExpress is giving Brits the one-holiday gift they seem to have forgotten about… being good to yourself. Friday the 8th of November marks the launch of AliExpress’s biggest 11.11 global shopping festival to date – with access to one of the best deals of the year across tech, home, accessories, fashion, beauty and more.

Featuring discounts of up to 80% off, the global shopping event runs from 11th to 18th in November and continues with Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals to 3rd December.

A survey with 2,000 Brits carried out by AliExpress reveals that 25% of people never buy gifts for themselves due to budget constraints (22%) and feelings of guilt (11%). AliExpress is providing unbeatable prices on a wide range of items to encourage people to treat themselves without breaking the bank.

Shake & Win Prizes during 11.11 Global Shopping Festival

This year AliExpress is introducing new features to enhance the shopping experience, including ‘Shake and Win’ which offers customers the opportunity to discover special rewards and deals.

During 11.11, shoppers can ‘shake’ their phones once a day to unlock prizes – from discount coupons to physical prizes, including discounts from Hello Fresh, Train Pal, Hungry Panda as well as signed merchandise and tour tickets from British singer-songwriter Sam Tompkins. Shake and Win makes shopping more fun, providing not just value and variety but also a unique engaging experience.

A month-long series of livestream shopping

Following the success of the brand’s UK livestream launch earlier this year, AliExpress is hosting its first fashion livestream show on 10th November at 8PM GMT to introduce its new arrivals in fashion and accessories. The series of livestreams will feature over 400 curated style choices and live discounts for shoppers who tune in  via the AliExpress app and TikTok channel.

From November 12th there will be a 4-hour livestream showcase of budget friendly products every day at 12PM  GMT.

The 11.11 Shopping Festival which starts on 11th November kicks off an extended festive shopping period, with deep discounts on an incredible selection of popular brands and trending products. We are committed to providing a seamless, fun shopping experience, especially during the busy festive period.

Addition results from research include:

The Gifts we Forget: British consumers reveal hesitation in Self-Care.

  • A quarter of people in the UK (25%) never buy themself a gift or reward.
  • Brits are the least likely Europeans to treat themselves when compared to other European countries surveyed, including Spain, Germany, France and Italy.

Generational Divide in Self-Care.

  • Over a fifth (22%) of Brits buy gifts or reward themselves every 1-2 months, of which more women (24%) buy gifts or rewards for themselves vs men (21%).
  • Among 18-27 year olds, 68% treat themselves at least every 2 months, reflecting a modern embrace of self-care and well-being. In contrast, this is compared to 43% for Gen X’s, and 29% for Boomers, showing a tendency towards restraint, likely shaped by financial caution and long-help cultural norms of sacrifice.

Special Occasions or Simple Self-Care?

  • For those who do treat themselves, birthdays are the most common occasions, with over two thirds of respondents (42%) stating they would treat themselves once a year for their birthday, and within this, more women (45%) buy gifts or rewards for themselves vs men (40%).

The Barriers to Self-Gifting.

  • Brits say budget constraints are the primary reason for not treating themselves (22% respondents agree), with women feeling this more acutely than men (26% vs. 18%). The financial burden of everyday life often forces many to prioritise essentials over personal luxuries, and this sense of sacrifice is particularly strong amongst women.
  • Despite being the most likely to treat themselves, Gen Z are the highest age group (13%) to feel the guilt, followed by Boomers (12%), with Gen X (9%) feeling less guilty about buying gifts or self-rewarding.

Festive Generosity and Holiday Spending.

Close to a third of people in the UK (30%) are planning on giving 1-5 people Christmas gifts this year, and the same number (30%) are planning on giving 6-10 people Christmas gifts this year. 1 in 8 Brits (12%) are planning on giving 11-15 people Christmas gifts this year.
  • When it comes to spending, almost one third (32%) are planning to spend between £15-£30 on gifts per person this year for Christmas. 1 in 10 respondents who are buying presents for a loved one this Christmas (10%) are planning on splurging on gifts, with an average spend of between £75-£90 per person.
