eBay have launched a number of enhancements to the local pickup experience in the UK. As these transactions make up a significant portion of our C2C transactions, eBay have increased local supply by defaulting new C2C listings to offer both pickup and shipping options. They have also created a new eBay Local landing page and map view for optimal browsing of nearby inventory.
So how does eBay Local work? Firstly, for C2C sellers, local collection options are automatically applied to listings with the aim to find a buyer that’s close to the seller. eBay say that this is a greener way to shop that cuts down on waste from postage and packaging while supporting local people. It enables sellers to connect with buyers in their area to collect items with secure payments and straightforward transactions.
eBay Local also means it’s cheaper to organise in-person collection, and quicker to sell or pick up bulkier items like furniture ahead of Christmas. Buyers can search for listings using their postcode, arrange collection with the seller and safely release payment using a QR or six-digit code. This is important as it ensures the sellers gets paid and the buyer knows their funds are secure until the item is in their hands.
