Brits save big by starting Christmas early finds Temu

Brits are starting Christmas early, transforming their homes into festive wonderlands weeks before December to entertain children, ensure sweet family time in a budget-friendly way and collectively lift  community spirit.

A third of Brits (33%) now put up their decorations in November, with 20% decorating earlier than ever before. One in five consumers started their annual home transformation as early as mid-November, an online poll at One Poll Survey supported by Temu shows.

And it’s no surprise people start Christmas early – even I’ve been sucked into shopping for Christmas cards, gift tags, wrapping paper and the like on Temu. We all know when Christmas is going to arrive – it’s the same date every year – and shopping early allowing for slower delivery times gets you the exact same products as on other platforms but at a knock down price!

Amid rising living costs, visiting decorated houses has become an affordable and joyful activity for many families. The research reveals that 36% of parents make it an annual tradition, while 25% enjoy it as a free way to get their children excited for Christmas. Even those who don’t visit local houses enjoy festive displays in parks, city centres, or shopping centres, with 15% opting for these alternatives.

Festive joy with Christmas Decor

Christmas decorations aren’t just about aesthetics—they’re a source of comfort and emotional well-being. About 50% of Brits say decorations improve their mood, and 25% describe the effect as significant.

Christmas lights also strengthen community bonds, with 25% of people feeling closer to their neighbours when decorations go up. Decorations transform streets into festive havens, as 60% of Brits agree their neighbourhoods feel more welcoming during the season. These shared experiences help foster a sense of togetherness, with 9% of consumers saying Christmas lights spark conversations they wouldn’t usually have.

This trend reflects a growing desire to enjoy the season for longer, spread cheer, and embrace nostalgia.

Changing Decoration Trends

Decorations have evolved beyond simple tinsel and fairy lights. Despite traditional foil decorations such as garlands and baubles remain the most popular choice (27%), modern styles are gaining traction. LED light displays like animated or colour-changing lights] are a favourite for 23%, while another 18% opt for natural decorations such as pinecones, greenery, and dried oranges. Nostalgic or heirloom decorations are cherished by 12%, and themed designs, such as candy cane or winter wonderland styles, are chosen by 11%.

Outdoor decorations have also become increasingly creative, with 50% of Brits noticing a rise in the scale and sophistication of displays in recent years. These range from synchronised light shows to oversized inflatables, inspiring 25% of people to dazzle their neighbourhoods with their own festive efforts.
