Marks & Spencer are announcing this morning the launch of the first dedicated M&S resale service for clothing, footwear and accessories on eBay — the destination for branded, pre-loved fashion. The partnership makes it easy for customers to trade in M&S items they no longer wear and offers a one-stop destination to shop favourite styles through the official M&S x eBay store.
Pairing eBay’s reach across millions of fashion-conscious shoppers with Reskinned’s expertise in garment repair, resale and recycling, the new online service extends the lifecycle of M&S garments and reduces textile waste by giving quality pre-loved items a new home. The initiative is the latest for Another Life, which is how M&S is activating its Plan A sustainability strategy in Fashion, Home & Beauty.
One of the most searched for brands on eBay, M&S is known for producing well-made clothing designed to last. eBay has long championed the style and sustainability credentials of pre-loved fashion, along with Reskinned, who’s leading brand-integrated takeback and resale solution that aims to keep clothes in circulation. The new partnership accepts rewearable items including footwear, handbags, belts, hats and scarves, which were previously excluded from M&S’ in-store clothes recycling scheme — and brings everything together in one easy, online experience for customers to recycle and repurchase.
How the M&S resale service works:
- Customers complete a short form on M&S.com or scan QR codes in M&S’ Fashion, Home & Beauty stores, then send their pre-loved items using a free local courier service to Reskinned.
- For each return that includes at least one M&S-labelled item, customers receive a £5 off a spend of £35 or more on fashion, home, and beauty products online at M&S.com (valid for four weeks from date of issue).
- Items that can be worn again are professionally cleaned, repaired and listed by Reskinned on the M&S x eBay store. Items that cannot be resold will be responsibly repurposed or recycled.
- Customers can purchase pre-loved products on the official M&S x eBay store.
A partnership with purpose
The M&S resale launch is the latest initiative under Another Life, which is how M&S activates its Plan A strategy in Fashion, Home & Beauty. Another Life brings together M&S’ approach to circularity into one place with a focus on the four R’s; Rewear, Repair, Recycle and Resale.
Having been the first major UK retailer to launch a clothes recycling scheme back in 2008, M&S is now completing the final R – Resale with the launch of the new partnership with eBay and Reskinned. Items traded-in through the in-store recycling scheme will now be resold via the dedicated M&S eBay store with M&S committing to contribute 15% of its profits to its long-standing partners at Oxfam.
At M&S, we are committed to supporting customers to do the right thing and playing our part in reducing textile waste. We’re delighted to be partnering with the pre-loved experts at eBay and Reskinned to launch a dedicated resale platform. This not only offers more ways for customers to give items Another Life, but also an opportunity for customers to purchase items they might have missed from previous seasons – which are pre-loved.
