Vinted pinpoints 4th January, as Sell-It Sunday

As the post-Christmas calm settles in, Brits across the country begin sorting through their gifts and making important ‘stick or sell’ decisions. Vinted, Europe’s leading second-hand fashion marketplace and go-to destination for all things pre-loved, reveals that Sunday 4th January is expected to be the nation’s busiest day for post-Christmas reselling.

Dubbed “Sell-It Sunday”– an unofficial national holiday for decluttering, re-gifting and making a bit of extra money after the festive season. The first Sunday of each year sees a spike in listings for unwanted gifts on Vinted, averaging three times the normal daily rate. With items often listed in new or like new condition. It’s the day that millions of Brits turn their unwanted presents into cash and space for the year ahead.

Last year’s top-listed items show exactly how one person’s unwanted gift can become another’s pre-loved gem, with categories including women’s toiletries and perfumes, jewellery, nightwear and make-up topping the listings.

The start of the new year also provides a natural moment for people to declutter and recognise the value hidden in unused items around the house. In fact, over half (51%) of Brits estimate they have more than £400 worth of unused items at home, with around one in six (16%) believing the total value of their unused belongings exceeds £1,000.

When it comes to buying, fashion dominates post-Christmas sales on Vinted but is closely followed by entertainment and electronics. As Vinted has expanded into new second-hand categories there has been a rise in demand for items including books, magazines, CDs and vinyl, with 55% of UK consumers expressing interest in buying them.

Sell-It Sunday isn’t just the moment unwanted gifts get a second life. It’s become a national reset, a day when millions of people turn clutter into cash, explore fresh styles and discover everything from fashion to electronics on Vinted. It shows how second-hand shopping continues to grow as a smart, stylish choice for 2026.

So, if you’re eyeing up that gift-set you’re never going to use, or the book you’ll never read, 4 January is a good chance to turn it into your first win of the New Year.
