Snow and high winds impacting swathes of UK

Following the Met Office warnings, severe snow and ice have caused disruption to some deliveries and other services across the UK. Unusually, the South West has been one of the most severely impacted areas, due to Storm Goretti and high winds.

For ecommerce businesses, this is a time to batten down the hatches and ensure that customers are kept up to date with delivery forecasts and tracking information. With many in the South without power today, even that however might be proving a challenge.

eBay, as always, are well prepared and advise:

  • Continue to dispatch orders as normal where services are operating.
  • If you are in a severely impacted area and cannot dispatch, message your buyers to explain the situation and manage their expectations.
  • Upload tracking details as soon as you dispatch an item. This keeps buyers informed and helps protect you if an Item not received case is opened.

In areas where collections and deliveries are severely disrupted, eBay will review protections for your delivery performance where necessary. eBay say that they will share more details in the coming days once they have a clearer view of the impact.

Royal Mail have published a long list of impacted postcodes where they’re expecting some disruption to deliveries and collections

We’re doing everything possible to deliver and collect from all addresses where it is safe to do so. The wellbeing of our posties is our top priority, we’re closely monitoring the weather situation and will resume our usual services as soon as it’s safe.
