Gumtree Pay & Collect is making buying and selling locally easier with the launch of online payment for eligible For Sale listings under £250. This is a great new feature from the marketplace – For the first time, buyers can pay securely through Gumtree before they collect, meaning there’s no need to carry cash, arrange an awkward bank transfer with a stranger or worry about the item being snapped up before collection.
Gumtree Pay & Collect is designed to give both sides more confidence . The item is reserved once payment is made, buyers can inspect it in person before confirming collection, and the seller is only paid once the buyer confirms they’re happy with the item.
For sellers, it also means more committed buyers, no cash handling and immediate release of payment once collection has been confirmed.
As Gumtree roll out this feature, eligible listings will automatically become available to reserve and pay for online, if someone buys your item using online payment, you’ll be able to see the order and manage it directly in your Gumtree account.
While eligible live listings will not automatically be enrolled in Gumtree’s online payment and collection, once this feature is available you can edit your listings and enable this option, allowing buyers to reserve and pay online before collecting the item.
How Gumtree Pay & Collect works
- The buyer purchases the item securely through Gumtree.
- The item is reserved for that buyer and is no longer available for others to purchase.
- Buyer and seller arrange a convenient collection time through Gumtree Messages.
- The buyer inspects the item when they arrive.
- If they’re happy, they confirm the collection by entering a secure 6-digit code, found in our app.
- Payment is then released to the seller.
If the buyer isn’t happy with the item when they inspect it, the order can be cancelled and the buyer will receive a full refund.
