The New York Post has revealed that Amazon is going to open a massive bricks and mortar book shop in the heart of Manhattan.
The Hudson Yards pemises is scheduled to open in 2018 or 2019. Amazon already has a book shop in its home town of Seattle.
This represents another interesting move from etail giant Amazon. And begs the question, is there anything they won’t do? They’re already muscling in on the groceries market, lease an airport, are challenging established players with fulfilment and delivery and make their own TV shows.
But going back to their original turf war and opening a bookshop sounds extraordinary. Arguably no company has done more to destroy the original book shops we used to know.
