The unstoppable Amazon machine continues its unrelenting assault on ecommerce in the UK. They’re growing at a great pace, not just in terms of retail sales, but also when it comes to building out its infrastructure of staff and facilities.
The new jobs will range from software developers and warehouse staff and will be located at Amazon offices in London, a customer support centre in Edinburgh and in the three new fulfilment centres in Tilbury, Doncaster and Daventry. These new hires will take the total number of employees at Amazon in the UK to 24k by year end.
Head of Amazon UK Doug Gurr says: “We are creating thousands of new UK jobs including hundreds of apprenticeship opportunities as we continue to innovate for our customers and provide them with even faster delivery, more selection and better value.”
Whilst, of course, these new developments are remarkable and testament to the astonishing growth of the ecommerce giant, it’s not entirely clear here what’s totally new. Certainly, we’ve written about the new ~FCs in Tilbury and Doncaster before and the new jobs there. So it would be useful to know what the real number of plus jobs are.
But none of that should detract from the fact that Amazon is on a remarkable trajectory of growth.
