More than 300,000 US based small and medium-sized businesses (or SMEs) joined the Amazon Marketplace and started selling in 2017. And they reports that SMEs on Amazon sold billions of items to customers around the world. Apparently, half of the items sold on Amazon worldwide are from small and medium-sized enterprises that offer their products through the Amazon Marketplace.
Peter Faricy is the Vice President for Amazon Marketplace, says: “More and more small and medium-sized businesses are choosing to join the Amazon Marketplace and sell right alongside Amazon to reach customers around the world. Entrepreneurs and small business owners are succeeding on Amazon – they sell half the products that Amazon customers buy, and more than 140,000 small and medium-sized businesses surpassed $100,000 in sales on Amazon in 2017. These businesses are reinvesting in their local communities – creating jobs and supporting local suppliers. We are proud of how the Amazon Marketplace helps empower so many small businesses, not just in the US, but around the world.”
Amazon also reports that mall and medium-sized businesses on Amazon come from every state in the U.S. and more than 130 countries around the world. In 2017, customers ordered billions of items from small and medium-sized businesses on Amazon, including more than one billion items during the holiday season.
