Amazon Prime Wardrobe rolled out to all US Prime members

Amazon Prime Wardorbe launched to selected American users last June, but has now rolled out to all Prime Members across the US in a try before you buy scheme for fashion.

The offer is to pick between three and eight self curated items to create your look and have them shipped to you to try on in the comfort of your own home. Keep what you want, return what you want with no guilt, just a provided returns label to enable you to drop the items off at your nearest UPS location.

If you’re a merchant about to have a heart attack, never fear. Consumer can’t pick from the entire Amazon selection but from a smaller range that’s included in the Amazon Wardrobe offering. Amazon have so many private labels now that combined with Amazon retail the range of products available on Prime Wardrobe is expansive and caters for women, men, children and babies alike.

Amazon have laid down the law on returns – you have seven days to return or you’re keeping the items. Items must also be returned with tags on and in their original packaging, including: hangers, polybags, shoe boxes, dust bags, and gift boxes. Items must be unused, unworn, unwashed, and undamaged. If Amazon deem the item not fit for sale then they’ll ship it back to you and you’re keeping and paying for it.

If you want to return after 7 days you can, under Amazon’s normal 30 day returns policy but you’ll have been charged for the items by then.

This is an interesting programme from Amazon, bringing the ability to try clothes on before you buy. One might look at Amazon Wardrobe and think that they’re adding logistics costs in, but in reality many shoppers already order clothes knowing full well they’ll send half of them back of Amazon are only legitimising behaviour that shoppers are already doing.
