Buuy marketplace to return in summer 2018 as a mobile app

No primary category set

As Tamebay reported earlier in the year, the nascent Buuy.co.uk marketplace closed its doors after a wobbly few months of trying to fund its survival. But it now looks like Buuy will be back in the coming months and reincarnated as a buying and selling app.

The holding page at buuy.app is already live with some details of what to expect and the features that will be on offer. As it stands we don’t have a scheduled date of launch any more specific than “summer”. But we do know that the Android version will launch first, followed by a web based marketplace after that and then the Apple iOS version of the app will follow. We’ll let you know if we find out more about timing.

The app will be free to download and free to use as a buyer and a seller. Sellers will have the option to boost and make listings featured and that will deliver revenues.

This move very firmly takes Buuy into the space that is currently best known for Shpock (which we have also written about before). There is a definite interest and thirst for pure-play mobile apps and the marketplace in the UK is ripe for more entrants and a dominant competitor could emerge. Buuy, unlike most of the existing players in the space, will facilitate online sales as well as permit face to face exchanges as is typical with classified apps at the moment.

Gumtree is obviously a crucial player but could be challenged by a buying and selling mobile marketplace app that found a following. Apparently Buuy has attracted investment from angel investors and is looking to launch not just in the UK but the USA too to grow its audiences. We’ll report more as we find it out.
