There are new Instagram commerce eligibility requirements that expand access to Instagram Shopping to more types of businesses, including creators that want to connect with shoppers and sell their merchandise on Instagram. The new updated requirements come into effect on the 9th of July in all countries where Instagram Shopping is supported.
“Whether you are a candle business making a foray into e-commerce, a musician selling merch or a food blogger expanding into your own cookware line, any eligible business or creator account with at least one eligible product can use shopping tags to drive people to their website to make a purchase. US businesses that are part of our checkout beta on Instagram can drive people to purchase directly in-app.”
Under the updated Instagram commerce policy, you must tag products on Instagram from a single website that you own and sell from (your own website, not marketplaces) so that shoppers have a consistent and trusted shopping experience. To confirm you own your domain, Instagram may require you to complete their Domain Verification process and you must not use URL shortening services.
When you sign up for Instagram Shopping, you will be notified as soon as you are approved and ready to start tagging products. If your business is not approved, Instagram will offer a clear reason so that you can take the necessary action or appeal.
New businesses will go through our updated onboarding flow and existing businesses will receive an in-app notification in the coming weeks with instructions about how to come into compliance.
Instagram Commerce compliance requirements
- Comply with policies
In addition, lack of compliance with policies, including the Merchant Agreement, Commerce Policies, Ads Policies and Pages, Groups, and Events Policies, may result in loss of access to Facebook Commerce surfaces, Commerce features, or may lead to your account being disabled.
- Represent your business and your domain
Your Facebook Page or Instagram professional account must contain product listings that are available for direct purchase from your website or Checkout on Facebook or Instagram.
If you are directing buyers from Facebook Commerce surfaces to a website in any supported market, you must provide Facebook with the single non-shortened domain through which you sell. Your Facebook Page or Instagram professional account must represent the store or website associated with the domain provided. To confirm you own your domain, Instagram may require you to complete a Domain Verification process.
- Be located in a supported market
Your Facebook Page or Instagram professional account must be located in one of the supported markets detailed in the table below to use Facebook Commerce surfaces.

Checkout on Facebook and Instagram is currently only supported in the United States.
- Demonstrate trustworthiness
Your Facebook account and Page or Instagram professional account must have demonstrated trustworthiness, including through an authentic, established presence. This may also include maintaining a sufficient follower base.
- Provide accurate information and follow best practices
Product information listed on Facebook Commerce surfaces must not contain misleading pricing and availability information. Your refund and return policies must be clearly displayed and easily accessible from your website or on Facebook or Instagram.
