Mum postboxes highlight Mother’s Day in pandemic

No primary category set

Mother’s Day is set to be a little different from usual this year, with many of us unable to see our mums in person due to the lockdown. Although we can now meet up to one person outside, if the weather stays like it is today being blown away on a park bench isn’t quite as attractive as taking your mum for a gourmet lunch. Royal Mail are today launching four mum postboxes, as a reminder of the heightened importance of sending a Mother’s Day card or gift this year.

The mum postboxes – three of which are for letters and cards, and the other a parcel postbox – are decorated in an elegant plum colour, and feature testimonies from local real-life Royal Mail employees – yes our Posties also have mums, many of whom haven’t seen them and have worked right through the pandemic keeping sup supplied with essentials and treats.

Each of the mum postboxes features a design which incorporates images of the Posties mum, and a heartfelt account of their relationship with them, and how recent lockdown restrictions may be impacting them.

The boxes are also ‘digitally activated’ – meaning that customers can scan a QR code contained within the design on their mobile phones and watch a short, heartfelt film featuring the employees, in which they discuss and celebrate their mother.

One of the videos features Emma Cullingford, from West Sussex, speaking about her mother who went missing in 2013. At the time, Emma was supported by Royal Mail charity partner Missing People, who provide support for over 100,000 people who go missing each year, and for their family and friends.

Royal Mail’s charity partner, Missing People, is the only charity in the UK which is dedicated to bringing the 176,000 children and adults that go missing every year back together with their families.

Where to find the mums postboxes

The four postboxes are located in busy hotspots in Inverness, Lisburn (Northern Ireland), Pontypridd and Liverpool, and will be launched from today. They will be decorated for a month.

“This year more than ever, it is important to let loved ones know that they are in your thoughts. Mother’s Day is set to be a little different than usual this year, and as so many prepare to spend the day away from their loved ones, sending a letter, card or parcel through the post is the perfect way to remind your mum – wherever she may be – just how much you love her and how much she really means to you.”
– Nick Landon, Chief Commercial Officer, Royal Mail
