Certifying products as Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly

No primary category set

The Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly programme is designed to help you to promote products with sustainability certifications to customers.

Consumers are looking to shop more sustainably. In a worldwide study, IBM found that 57% of consumers are willing to change their purchasing habits to help reduce negative environmental impact. Consumers who say that the environment is very important to them, would pay a premium of 35%, on an average, for sustainable and environmentally responsible brands.

The Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly makes it easier for customers to discover and shop for more sustainable products. Customers can look for the ‘Climate Pledge Friendly’ badge within shopping results, product pages, and by visiting a dedicated section of our store. Customers can also refine their search to Climate Pledge Friendly products only.

Since Amazon launched the programme last year, more than 100,000 products have been certified in Amazon’s EU stores. In October they added five new European certifications, bringing the programme’s total number of certifications in Europe to 31.

To assist you in getting certified, Amazon have now created a guide covering:

  • The certifications included in our programme
  • How to get certified
  • How to confirm that your ASIN is badged as Climate Pledge Friendly

NB there are two types of certification:

  1. Compact by Design
  2. Compact by Design is a sustainability certification created by Amazon to identify products that have a more efficient design. With the removal of excess air and water, products become more efficient to ship. At scale, these small differences in product size and weight lead to significant carbon emission reductions.

  3. External Sustainability Certifications
  4. Amazon also partner with a wide range of external certifications, including governmental agencies, non-profits, and independent laboratories, to help them distinguish more sustainable products.

If you go through an external certifier, once your product is certified, contact your certifier and they will provide EANs/GTINs/UPCs directly to Amazon. Brands should get in touch via Vendor Central (details here), or ff you are a Selling Partner, contact your account manager or email [email protected]
