East Essex & Suffolk PO closures announced

Suffolk Coastal Council is urging residents to protest against the closure of Post Offices in the region. 15 of the area’s 49 post offices have been earmarked for closure, many in villages. Mary Neale, responsible for rural issues and community development on the council, said that “What I hope that people will do now is to come up with their own alternative suggestions to stave off the impact of closure and put these forward to the Post Office as I suspect these are more likely to be positively listened to.” Affected customers have just six weeks to lodge their objections against proposed closures.

Under the Post Office’s plans for East Essex and Suffolk, 52 post offices will close altogether, and a further 16 will be replaced with “outreach solutions”, where post offices will be sited within other shops, or where mobile offices will visit once a week.

Closures in Scotland are to be announced next week.
