Royal Mail strikes cancelled by courts

No primary category set

Royal Mail have won a small victory to keep our mail moving. A High Court injunction temporarily blocking strike action for next week has been granted. Monday and Tuesday’s strikes have been deemed illegal as Royal Mail weren’t given adequate information on how many workers would be affected by the action, which is a requirement for the strikes to be legal.

Sadly this is unlikely to give much relief, it’s not a mistake the unions are likely to make again. The CWU and Royal Mail are still talking, but latest reports are that they’re making no headway towards resolving outstanding issues. It’s highly likely more strikes will be announced by next week in addition to those scheduled for Wednesday onwards.

  1. The words “will this make a blind bit of difference” spring to mind. The wild cat strikes this week are illegal but they are still going on.

I doubt the workers who where on strike are putting 100% into shifting the backlog at the moment, so the 2 days next weeks when they should have been on strike will be the same.

The postal workers really aren’t doing themselves any favours

  2. Latest reports are that a deal may have been reached. There’s supposed to be a statement later tonight.

  3. I’m very much an ‘check eBay first’ kinda guy but I’m ashamed to say that the uncertainty surrounding the strike has meant that I’ve actually been to the shops this week instead of eBay to make some purchases I would normally do on there.

It was for things that I needed to get in the next few days and I just couldn’t risk waiting. :o(
