A new marketplace had launched in Aberdeen giving local businesses a place to sell their fresh produce to consumers living in the area.

Mad Potato want to change the relationship consumers have with food and the businesses who sell it by providing a convenient way to find locally sourced, healthy produce from sources they can trust. This doesn’t just provide a safe way for consumers to have food delivered in the pandemic but also provides a guiding hand towards a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle.

“We are on a mission of reshaping the consumers’ shopping experience and preference. We want people to trust the local businesses and upgrade their taste from the bland taste of mediocre mass-produced food to selectively created and grown local products.”

Although sellers need to be local to Aberdeen this marketplace provides a good example of how local businesses and producers can be supported and moved online to not only support the economy but tap into the recent demand for good health and wellbeing. Mad Potato helps promote health by giving consumers more opportunities to eat well, know what they are eating and where it is being sourced from.

“One of the reasons why we like and promote family businesses is because being one, we know such business models are mostly passion-driven. Since the family’s needs and name are at stake, there is a greater sense of commitment and accountability. This level of commitment is almost impossible to generate in non-family firms. Family-owned and -run businesses place importance on hitting business goals and the overall company vision in a long-term period rather than a short-term period.”
