Amazon opens its first delivery center in Belgium

As reported by De Standaard Amazon will be opening their first delivery center in Belgium but does this spell trouble for Bpost, who have been Amazon’s trusty go-to courier service.

The delivery Center is planned for Antwerp by the end of 2022 and is a step taken to meet the demands Amazon is currently facing in Belgium whilst expanding their delivery capabilities and network.

This new delivery center will sort parcels from the bigger centers in France and Germany making it easier for customers to receive parcels from the neighbouring countries. Amazon have stated that they will continue to work closely with local couriers. Although this sounds good it does mean there is a risk that the local couriers are left with the more demanding parcels and areas whilst Amazon deals with the highly populated towns and cities. That being said, Amazon are keen to continue working closely with these couriers.

In reality Amazon giving themselves more options by expanding their network was enevitable as they look to reduce the pressure of consumer demand and expand the areas they can reach in new markets.

The new center will also open up over 50 new jobs for sorting and managment while delivery drivers from the local couriers pick up and deliver Amazon parcels to customers.

Since operating in Belgium, Amazon has built a relationship of trust with various delivery companies in the country and will continue to work closely with these partners in the future
