PayPal updates confirm you can't transfer accounts

No primary category set

PayPal have confirmed in their latest user agreement updates that you’re not allowed to transfer your account to someone else. You also have to agree not to operate a PayPal account on behalf of someone else, or in other words if they close or limit your account you can’t get your mother/brother/sister/cousin/mate to open up a PayPal account and let you use it.

This becomes slightly trickier for businesses as although PayPal operate Premier and Business accounts as well as Personal accounts they still have to have a named individual on them. With eBay accounts when a business is sold it’s normal (although not allowed) for the eBay account to be transferred along with all business bank accounts etc. It’s possible to edit all details on eBay accounts including the name of the account owner – to change the user’s name on a PayPal account is more tricky (e.g. if you change your name by marriage or deed poll) and involves a telephone call to request PayPal to do it for you.

Other policy changes include preferred funding sources (e.g. balance, credit card, bank card, direct debit) although it’ll always default to PayPal balance unless you withdraw all funds prior to making the payment.

There are other amendments to PayPal’s liability and right to “sole discretion (acting reasonably)” to close your account, and amendments to their privacy policy to outsource customer services and to use credit reference and fraud agencies.
