Using Gumtree to find casual labour

It’s time to move warehouse again. Some of you are probably aware that I share my current warehouse with John Pemberton who sells on eBay as and he had another warehouse in Ellesmere Port. We’re consolidating all our warehouses and moving into new larger premises in Swindon and aim to be fully up and running in time for the new year.

Last week we hired two 7.5 tonners to move his stock of suits and Doc Martens Boots from Ellesmere port and used Gumtree to find labourers to help load and unload the trucks.

The response was amazing – in Ellesmere port 15 people responded before we pulled the ad. When the ad went onto Swindon Gumtree to help unload there were three responses within 10 minutes of the ad being posted.

There are plenty of people out of work and they’re looking daily if not hourly to find employment. Not only that but the four guys who helped us over the two days were hard workers – they’re proactively looking for work and doing whatever it takes to keep themselves busy. If you’re looking for casual warehouse staff to cope with the Christmas rush give Gumtree a try.
