Whilst posties in Canada continue to strike, there’s better news from Royal Mail in the UK. Royal Mail have agreed a Joint Statement with the CWU which sets out the basis for completing all aspects of the London Mail Centre Rationalisation. The CWU have confirmed that no strike action will take place in the sites which were balloted for action in May.
The CWU do have an interesting “win” from the negotiations saying they’ve negotiated “guarantees there will be no compulsory redundancies as major workplace change is rolled out“. The CWU shouldn’t worry about compulsory redundancies though – About 580 people will be leaving the Royal Mail but almost 700 full time Royal Mail people in London have already shown an interest in voluntary redundancy.
The CWU should spend more time worrying about the hundreds of Royal Mail employees who will sadly have to carry on working or leave without redundancy terms, rather than trying to protect the jobs of those happy to leave the company.
However it’s great news for the UK in general and online traders in particular. At least the we know our parcels will be delivered and the only thing left to worry about is will there be a tube strike during Wimbledon week?
